The term ‘Wreckers’ is used to describe Pirates who deliberately lured merchant ships towards the rocky coastline with lanterns, promising safe harbour before wrecking the ships and plundering their cargo.
Over the centuries, countless ships were run aground along the treacherous Pembrokeshire coastline, only to then have their cargo plundered by local wreckers, with the local militia often being deployed to fend them off.
